Snow-JahZeeTM 05

Very good atmosphere despite of changeable and snowy weather at Snow-JahZeeTM 05, 8th – 10th April 2005, Hoch-Ybrig. Almost half a meter of snow was falling during the Snow-JahZeeTM weekend and therefore the regular contest timetable had to be changed. Winner of the Rail-JahZeeTM which took place on Saturday is Mone Monsberger. Due to foggy weather on Sunday the Snow-JahZeeTM had to be replaced by a JahZee SessionTM. Although the course had to be shifted the organisation team - Snow- and Skateshop SigSagSug and the Natural Born Chillaz (NBC) – can look back to a successful weekend.

Kick off for the Snow-JahZeeTM 05 was the qualification on Friday. Slight sleet made it hard for the riders to enter the final for which 25 riders were invited and 5 more could qualifie. Due to the weather forecast the program for the next two days was switched and the Rail-JahZeeTM which was actually planned for Sunday took place on Saturday.

But neither heavy snowfall nor the changing of the timetable could change the good atmosphere among the invited pro’s such as Arctic Challenge Winner Markus Keller (CH), Heinz Löhle (GER), Ästhetiker Mone Monsberger (AUT), Kiwi Quentin Robbins (NZL) and Swiss riders like Stephan Maurer, Hitsch Haller, Joel Strecker, Thomas Brunner, Chandro Capin, Raymond Brechbühl, Cyrill Eidam and Iouri Podladtchikov. Thanks to the generous sponsoring of Fosters beer the party was going on well and long at the two cottages „Türkenbund“ and „Rittersporn“. Those who prefered a relaxing bath had the opportunity to chill in the outdoor jaccouzi.

Snowfall, wind and thick fog was on all Saturday. For all that, all pro’s competed at the Rail-JahZeeTM on a 9m Down-Rail. Rail-Champion and lucky winner of an iPod was Mone Monsberger from Austria, who sticked 13 of 24 possible tricks. Wacyl Azzouz and Mike Knobel (both Swiss) had the same number of points and shared the second place. They could be lucky that nobody managed to get the Nokia Combo, so these two got a Nokia mobile phone. Other combo prizes such as entry tickets for the Alpamare or Daylong Sunscreen Sets were handed out to Mone, Mä Keller and NBC Local Mike Knobel.

Until Sunday morning there was half a meter of fresh snow fallen. Thanks to the tireless work of the NBC-Crew and all helpers the setup was soon ready again. It was still foggy and therefore the beginning of the Snow-JahZee was delayed. Now and then some sunbeams could find their way through the fog and raised everybodys hope to start the contest. But the pressure of time and the schedule getting tighter and thighter leaded to an official cancellation of Snow-JahZeeTM. Nevertheless there was an alternate solution: the JahZee Session at the upper kicker called K.T.

What a pitty the contest had to be cancelled and there was no successor for Reto Kestenholz who won the last two editions of Snow-JahZeeTM and could not compete this year due to an injury.
Also the chance to get the „Red Bull PERFECT“ – to stick all 18 tricks on the JahZee card in 9 runs – was gone. Who had managed this, would have had his own KTM SX 125 for 8 months and joined Red Bull Teamrider Chris Möckli for a motocross training and SigSagSug Teamrider Thamer Engeli for a FMX training. The rider with the most points would have won the SigSagSug Home-BBQ for the winner and 50 of his friends and supplementary would have had the opportunity to ride in the Top 16 at freestyle.ch 2005 in Zurich.

The JahZee Session went on for about two hours and different categories were spontaneously called out. Andy Bützer came in through the qualification and won a Nokia N-Gage QD for the best switch straight air with stalefish. He also sticked the nicest switch bs 3 and could carry home a Carrera Evolution Pro-X sponsored by Vans. Another two Nokia N-Gage were handed out to Chandro Capin for the best Cab 9 and to 15 years old Christian „Hitsch“ Haller for a very nice bs 180. It is not confirmed whether Cyrill Eidam – who just recovered from his hangover – was really happy with the case of Fosters beer he got for the best backflip. The witty categories „funniest trick“ and „naked ass“ were won by locals: Munzli Knobel carried home a CeDe.ch Package and Nik Huber’s bare bum was worth a LaCie Silverscreen HD. With one of the last tricks of the session he oust Rolf Feldmann as the ass-leader but Rolf sticked the nicest bs 5 and got a CeDe.ch Package.
It was almost outrageous and definitely ironic that the sun came out for the prize giving. But nature’s capriciousness could not change the constantly good and familiar atmosphere among all riders and helpers. The fact that Snow-JahZeeTM is a rider organised contest is definitely one of the reasons why all competitors will remember this contest as an extraordinary and witty weekend, eventhough the weather was not perfect and the programm abridged. Everybody is looking forward to next year and the hunt for the first “Perfect” in the history of Snow-JahZeeTM is not yet finished.
