Marco Erbrich - a styler with future
interview & pics by www.tobpix.com

"85" stands for his year of birth - 1985

“The Basics”

Okay Marco, let's start with some basics. Tell my something about
your place of birth and your current residence?
I’m living in Markgröningen for about 13 years now. That’s a small town near Stuttgart, where I was born, by the way. Markgröningen is a nice town and we have our own BMX-Track there - what else do we need?

First time you ever rode a BMX bike and when did you start racing?
I rode my first BMX bike, when I was 4 years old and I started racing in 1990.

Who did inspire you to do BMX?
That’s a funny story… I started building small ramps in front of our house and then my grandma said, that in Kornwestheim there was a BMX track which would perfectly fit to my needs. So that was the beginning of little Marco riding his bike.

"Big bikes and importance”

When did you switch to 26” bikes?
I always rode 26” as well, but I think it was in 2000 when I started racing with 26” bike.

How important is biking for you in your life?
I think it’s one of the most important things in my life. My friends always say, that I’m always just talking about riding and my dog.

Tell me something about the actual BikerX scene in Germany ... how many pro-riders and how many hobby-riders are there?
There are more hobby riders in Germany than pros, I think. I would say there are about 5 who are really riding professinal, I mean travelling around the globe, starting at world-cups and stuff like that.

“The 4X Future”

Has Germany a kind Bicycle Federation or something like that?
Of course, it’s called BDR (Bund Deutscher Radfahrer). And they are doing their job like the name says (*boring and lacy*)… They even don’t know what 4x is I think, so there are real problems for this sport to come up.

What do you think about the current situation of the global and the German BikerX scene?
4X worldwide is in a better position than in Germany. In Germany people only know soccer, tennis and the Tour de France.

What would you change to give the BikerX sport in Germany a better perspective?
First of all, we need more publicity. Another point is, that the BDR has to know what 4x is. But even then it would be hard for that sport to come up, because Germany is mainly old-fashioned and sticks to soccer, tennis and Tour de France.

A good Style is very important. Marco also likes to design websites.

“Lifestyle”

Is there a combination between the lifestyle of other extremsports (Skateboard) and BikeX?
It’s always the same, easy living and fun. All extremesports do have the same intensions.

Is it important for you to ride with your buddies and is there a good cohesionbetween the German riders?
Of course that’s important. You always need someone who pushes you forward. And riding alone is really less fun than with others. Allover the riders are doing good with each.

What would do you when BikerX not exists?
I would ride downhill or BMX :-)

Does music push to go bigger and what kind of music do you prefer?
If I listen to music while riding, it always hurts. So, yes it pushes me bigger, sometimes too big. I like everything that rocks.

“Racing”

Which value have Contests/Races for you?
I hate the time you have to wait till you can ride so much! I want to ride and not sit around. But except the waiting races are great. In races you often push your limits forward and that’s perfect.

What do you like more – Racing od Trail-Lines / Funriding?
It’s all great. Sometimes I like racing more and sometimes Funriding. A good mix is the best.

Did you ever had a bad crash and did you break something?
A real bad crash, no I wouldn’t say so. Of course I broke my arm and so, but really bad, no. One time I crashed and another rider drove over my head. Another crash was when I tried to jump an double sitting no handed, it doesn’t work well.

“Goals”

What are your goals for the future (private and sports)?
I want to become a superstar ;) *joke*. First of all I want to study media design and then job around, maybe abroad. I hope there is enough time to ride my bike. Later I want to bring up my own agency or something like that.

Have you ever thought about the life after BikerX?
More or less, I don’t really know how it will go on. The problem is, that I want to have a high qualified job but also want to ride on.

“Design”

Y
ou have a pretty nice homepage (www.marcoerbrich.de). Did you make the homepage by yourself?
Yes, it was a development over the last few years. First it was a really ugly one, fat fonts, over coulored, just ugly. But year by year I learned more and more. Today I have my own little company “me-styles”. We build homepages for other companies. Also I’m very proud of my new hompage, I think it looks great, but soon, I know, I will change some stuff which I don’t like that much.

Have you planned to make more webdesign or film projects in the future?
I planned to bring out a video every quarter year, just like my others which you can find on my page.

If you want to win a 4X race, you need strength and cleverness

“Locations and last words”

Favourite location to ride?
I like riding in citys and on our BMX track. Also trails are great, soon we will have our own.

You have an own BMX Track in Markgröningen/Germany. Tell me something about the track and the other things there (Trails & Dual course).
Like I said before, soon we will have our own trails. The BMX track is very technical and fast. We have training every Thursday, so if you are interested, just come over at 17.30.

Do you know some good links to other bike websites?

Any other comments or do you want to say something to your fellows, sponsors & fans?
Mum and Dad, thanks for supporting me and always being there when I needed you.

Last words … please give the kids some basic tips, how they could start with BMX / BikerX easily, if they want to?
Take your bike and go to a BMX track and then practice, practice, practice.
